Baptism & other options

The arrival of a new baby into your family is an important time and many people choose to mark the occasion with a special event.

In this church, we like to offer flexibility as to what this event might look like and offer these options, however old your child is, and whether or not you attend worship with us.

This is usually a baptism with water during the main church service

Godparents are usually recognised within the service and parents and Godparents make promises to the child.  The child will receive a gift of a candle and a Bible or book.

Many people choose this more formal approach as a meaningful ceremony for their family.

Traditional

This can be a less formal approach – maybe a thanksgiving, dedication, naming or blessing ceremony.  The choice is yours and you can have a great deal of input into what the event will look like.   You can choose your own words, in discussion with the Minister, and decide whether you want to make promises, thank God or just simply celebrate the fact that your child exists!  Godparents are not essential but are welcome at this type of service and can be recognised formally if you wish.   The child will receive a gift from the church.  Many people who are uncomfortable with the formality of a Christening, are worried about offending members of the wider family, choose this approach.

Flexible

Whatever approach you want to take we offer an opportunity to recognise this exciting moment in your lives and to add a spiritual dimension it.

These options can be discussed in full with the Minister

or Children and Family Worker

Do get in touch, we would love to share in this celebration with you.
